How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost?

A small business website does not have one universal price. Cost follows the scope: the pages you need, whether the design is custom or based on a template, what the site must do, who prepares the content, which tools it connects to, and what continues after launch for hosting, maintenance, and further work. Published industry research shows a wide range. Ageless Marketing does not publish a single website price. A specific fix is quoted on its own, and a larger build is scoped when the work belongs together.

Use this as a pricing guide for the decision, not as a national price tag. Two businesses can both say they need a website and still be buying different things. The useful comparison is the work inside the quote.

What published research says about website design cost

The Clutch Web Design Company Pricing Guide, updated September 2, 2026, is one public source with a stated method: pricing information drawn from Clutch’s database of web design agencies and verified client reviews. Clutch reports three findings that should be read together.

  • Web design agencies typically charge $2,000 to $100,000, depending on project size, design complexity, features included, and location.
  • Most web design projects reviewed on Clutch cost less than $10,000.
  • The average cost of web design projects in those verified reviews is $38,105.39. Clutch also reports an average monthly project cost of $5,279.79, and that most reviewed projects last 7 months.

The average and the “most projects” figure describe different views of the same kind of data. A small number of large projects can raise an average while most reviewed projects still land under $10,000. Clutch also says companies shortlisted there charge around $100 to $149 an hour, and its location table lists the same $100 to $149 hourly band for the United States. Hourly rates still do not tell you the invoice. A short, simple site and a large custom build can share an hourly band and end at very different totals.

Those numbers are industry research. They are not an Ageless Marketing rate card, and they are not a quote for your business.

What Ageless Marketing actually publishes about price

Ageless Marketing does not publish a single public price for a small business website. On the current pricing page, most work starts as one specific fix, scoped and quoted on its own. A larger website and search foundation is the next step when several issues belong together, not a requirement to begin. A single fix does not require an ongoing engagement. Ongoing work has a minimum term, and that term is stated before you commit. Final scope, timing, and terms are set in the agreement. Results depend on the business, the market, and execution.

Website Studio, the workspace behind Ageless-built websites, is priced as project scope by consultation. It is not a substitute for the website quote itself.

What determines the cost

A serious quote is a list of decisions. These are the decisions that usually move the price.

Design and development scope

Design is the structure, visual system, and page layouts. Development is the work that makes those pages function in a browser: templates or custom building, responsive behavior, forms, and the connections the site needs. A quote that says only “website design” may include one of those and not the other. Ask which.

Custom design or a template

Clutch distinguishes custom web design, built for the client’s needs, from template-based design, where a designer starts from a template or website builder and edits images, colors, and text. Custom work takes more design and review. A template can be the right choice for a simple brochure site. It is a weaker fit when the business needs a specific customer journey, unusual functionality, or a layout that should not look like the same theme other companies bought.

Ageless Marketing’s website design and development work is custom: page structure, messaging, responsive layouts, and the interactions the project needs. That is a scope statement, not a claim that custom is the only responsible way to build a site.

Number and type of pages

A homepage plus a contact page is a different project from a homepage, several service pages, a location page, supporting articles, and a resource library. Count the page types, not only the page total. A service page that must explain an offer, answer objections, and lead to an inquiry takes more work than a thin placeholder.

Functionality

Forms, calculators, member areas, booking, search, and custom interactions add design, building, and testing. Interactive or 3D website work is a clear example. Ageless has built live spatial sites, including 3DWebsite.io, an interactive model home, and The Collection yacht showroom. That kind of experience is scoped on its own. It is not included in an ordinary page build unless the agreement says so.

Ecommerce

An ecommerce website design cost is not a small-business brochure price with a cart icon added. Product information, payments, shipping, tax, inventory, and the rules around returns each add scope. Ageless Marketing does not publish a standard ecommerce package price. If selling online is part of the project, it needs its own line items.

Integrations

Connecting a site to email, a CRM, scheduling, payment tools, or an estimate experience takes access, testing, and a decision about what the visitor should do. Lead-generation tools are one version of this. The Roofing St. Louis project overview describes service-page planning, educational content, and estimate-path planning, including Roof Snapshot Pro integration planning. That overview describes the work. It does not publish lead or revenue results.

Copy and content

Words are part of the cost even when they are easy to forget in a design quote. Someone has to decide the offer, write the pages, and supply the proof the business is willing to show. Ageless can plan and write website copy through website projects and through blog content and SEO writing when articles are part of the plan. If the business is supplying finished copy, the quote should say that too.

Maintenance, hosting, and ongoing work

The build invoice and the cost of keeping the site online are different questions. Hosting, domain renewal, software licenses, security updates, content changes, and conversion improvements can be included, optional, or left to the business. Ageless does not publish a standalone hosting price. Ongoing strategy, content, and conversion work is described as ongoing growth support when that engagement is the right next step. Website maintenance costs should be written down before launch, including what is not covered.

What buyers should compare

Compare quotes by the work, not by the package name.
QuestionWhy it changes the price
What pages are included?Page count and page type drive design, writing, and building time.
Custom or template?Custom design and a configured template are different products.
Who writes the content?Copy, offers, and images are either in the fee or still left to you.
What must the site do?Forms, ecommerce, integrations, and interactive work add testing.
What search work is included?Page structure and metadata are not the same as an ongoing search program.
What happens after launch?Hosting, maintenance, and later edits need their own answer.
What is excluded? The exclusions explain why a low quote and a high quote can both be honest.

Custom website design pricing should be read the same way. “Custom” means the layout and structure are made for the business. It does not, by itself, say how many pages, whether content is included, or whether you will own the accounts. A web design package for a small business is useful when the package lists those items. A package name without a list is only a label.

For the line-by-line version of this question, read what is included in website design cost. Timing is a separate decision, covered in how long it takes to build a business website.

Where Ageless Marketing fits after the price question

Once the scope is clear, Ageless Marketing can design and build a custom, conversion-focused website: service pages, responsive layouts, forms, and a path to the next step. Projects can also include interactive website work, lead-generation flows, and, when the business needs it, AI and business automation. Those are separate capabilities already offered on the site. They are part of a project only when the agreement includes them.

The terms say deliverables, timelines, pricing, and project details are set out in a separate proposal or agreement, and that Ageless Marketing does not guarantee specific rankings, traffic, sales, revenue, leads, or conversions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small business website cost?

There is no single market price. Clutch’s Web Design Company Pricing Guide, updated September 2, 2026, says web design agencies typically charge $2,000 to $100,000 depending on project size, design complexity, features, and location, and that most web design projects reviewed on Clutch cost less than $10,000. The same guide reports an average project cost of $38,105.39 across verified reviews. That average is not the same figure as the typical reviewed project. Ageless Marketing quotes from an agreed scope rather than a published flat website price.

Why do website design quotes vary so much?

Two quotes can describe different products. One may be a template with a few pages and a contact form. Another may include custom design, written content, several service pages, integrations, ecommerce, or interactive work. Compare the scope line by line before comparing the totals.

Does Ageless Marketing publish website package prices?

The current public pricing page does not list a flat price for a small business website. Most work starts as one specific fix, scoped and quoted on its own. A connected website and search foundation is proposed when several issues belong together. Ongoing work has a minimum term that is stated before you commit. Final scope, timing, and price are set in the agreement. Website Studio projects are scoped by consultation.

Are hosting and maintenance part of the build price?

Sometimes, and sometimes they are billed separately. Ask the provider to say which. Ageless Marketing treats ongoing strategy, content, and conversion improvements as ongoing growth support when that work is in scope. The current site does not publish a standalone hosting fee.
